FOR THE LIFE AND DIGNITY OF THE PEOPLE OF IRAN

We are living through a storm. It is neither new nor fleeting. It is the storm of capitalism, imperialism, patriarchy, and states that administer death while speaking of order, stability, and security. In this storm, those at the top fight over territories, resources, and power; those at the bottom offer their bodies, their lives, their fear, and their hope.

In Iran today, this storm is hitting with particular ferocity. The Iranian people have once again mobilized against the regime of the Islamic Republic, which has not hesitated to carry out violent repression against those who take to the streets. These mobilizations are not an isolated event or a momentary reaction: they are the accumulated result of decades of political oppression, economic exploitation, patriarchal violence, systematic repression, and the denial of rights. They are struggles that arise from below, from the suffocating grip of daily life, from those who can no longer, nor want, to continue to survive in silence.

Up above, governments and powerful nations assess the situation in geopolitical terms. They calculate advantages, regional balances, energy routes, and convenient alliances. Up above, crime is normalized, justified, or concealed with rhetoric of “stability,” “security,” or “political realism.” Up above, even those who present themselves as enemies of the Iranian regime do not hesitate to legitimize the massacre when it serves their interests.

Down below, however, the Iranian people struggle for life.

Down below are the women who challenge patriarchal control every day.

Down below are the workers impoverished by neoliberal policies.

Down below are sexual minorities, religious minorities, oppressed peoples, and those who live in the peripheries beaten by the water, housing, and employment crises.

Down below are those who have taken to the streets time and time again, often with empty hands, without broad organizations — destroyed by repression — and yet have gone further than any institutional opposition.

We firmly denounce the external manipulation of these protests. No foreign power, no government of the Global North, no imperial project has the right to use the suffering of the Iranian people as a pawn in its game. This instrumentalization not only distorts the real struggles but also further endangers those who resist, turning them into a pretext for even more brutal repression.

We reaffirm the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination. Freedom cannot be exported or negotiated between states. No imperial intervention has ever brought justice or dignity to the peoples it claims to “liberate». We know this from history, and it is confirmed time and again by the ruins they leave in their wake.

There are those who, from the outside, look upwards and not downwards: those who justify the Iranian regime in the name of supposed anti-imperialism, ignoring that this same regime applies logics of occupation, apartheid, plunder, and neoliberalism against its own people; and those who promote reactionary, authoritarian, and dependent alternatives that promise salvation while perpetuating domination.

These are false dichotomies. Up above against up above. Power against power. Down below are the people, trapped between two forces that claim to be opposed but act in concert.

Our position is clear: we are not with the governments, we are with the people. Not with the states, but with those who resist. Not with the elites, but with those who fight to live.

Today, as the Iranian people face the communications blackout, the state of siege, and the militarization of daily life, we call to hear the warnings of our compañeros Zapatistas: the storm is global; whoever thinks it doesn’t affect them, that it doesn’t concern them, is mistaken. Faced with this storm, there are no saviors or solutions from above. What exists is the urgent possibility of uniting the struggles from below, of recognizing ourselves in the shared destiny of those who resist capital, imperialism, and all forms of domination.

We extend our hand to the Iranian people.

Not to protect them.

Not to speak for them.

But to say: you are not alone.

Because the struggle in Iran is also the struggle for life everywhere. And because only from down below, together, can we face the storm and imagine the day after.
