III.- PATRIOTIC POSTSCRIPT
A nightmare with a coat of arms, anthem, and flag (and, of course, a biometric Unique Population Registry Key ‘CURP’ [by its acronym in Spanish]).
Let’s imagine a fictitious scenario: the positions the US armed forces have taken on the border with Mexico and in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific are not intended to threaten, pressure, or monitor the cartels. Nor are they intended for skirmishes or head-to-head coups against any cartel. The strategic disposition of these forces is for an invasion.
If this were the case, then the references to the national anthem would be more rhetorical. A call for national unity, as in the times of Luis Echevarría Álvarez and José López Portillo.
Continuing with the suppository, then one would expect that bad governments would begin preparations: mandatory military service would be activated and the civilian population would be trained in the handling of firearms, the construction of defenses, the use of shelter and cover, knowledge of the terrain, and the chain of command. Of course, for this to happen, the civilian population would have to be equipped with weapons, however rudimentary. And the armed forces would reorient their actions towards preparing for defense.
The proof that this is unthinkable for governments is that the so-called National Guard law that was approved would go in the opposite direction. The entire structure and strategy of the armed forces in Mexico would be arranged, militarily, not for internal control, but for defense against a foreign attack. And the armies would not be designing, building, and managing the megaprojects of the official propaganda of the Fourth Transformation.
Let’s suppose that Mr. Trump is not content with simply subduing Mexico with tariffs, selective border closures, and trade and financial measures. Let’s suppose that Trump is someone eager to be noticed, to «go down in history» (does that sound familiar?). Let’s suppose that he is not interested in a discreet and quiet domination of his target, and that he needs to boast and thinks there’s nothing better than weapons to do so. Let’s suppose that Trump is a «bully» who not only needs to humiliate his target, but needs to be seen, for this cowardly action to «serve as a lesson.» Sure, he’s not smart, but he has a loaded gun and he is pointing it.
What would he have going for him?
An essential point of an invasion is having a casus belli, a motive, for such a war.
Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, who claims to govern the southeastern Mexican state of Chiapas, would have already given the gringos the guideline to follow in this hypothetical situation. His local armed forces momentarily invaded neighboring Guatemala, and he immediately justified the blunder by accusing that government… of complicity and protecting organized crime (the same thing the gringos say about Mexico). Of course, they gave him a smackdown from the center, but the damage was and is done.
With their new prerogative, the military forces, instead of spying on those who criticize and oppose the 4T, would gather information on the terrain and the military capabilities of the likely aggressor.
For its part, the aggressor would gather the necessary information about the objective of the invasion. And, as we’ve seen, information about the enemy’s character, psychology, and approach would weigh more heavily.
Another element to consider in this supposed invasion would be whether it has local support in the invaded territory.
Because, unlike in Ukraine and Palestine, where a Juan Guaidó hasn’t appeared—or hasn’t yet—as in Venezuela, in Mexico there are those who yearn and aspire to be part of the American Union.
The far right (also known as «the opposition») wants to be noticed. The fuss they make seven days a week isn’t aimed at voters. Voters are already campaigning for the ruling party, paying for the increasingly meager, if not targeted, social support.
The ruling party is wrong to celebrate the fact that the right’s hysteria has no appreciable effect on what matters to them: the vote.
The far right doesn’t throw tantrums and kicks and screams so the people of Mexico will notice them. It’s so that people in «the turbulent and brutal north» will take notice.
This sector, although small in number, is quite «noisy» in the media. However, it faces at least two problems:
One is when to expose themselves for what they are. And when they say, during their table talks, «Mexico will not be Venezuela,» they do so with the intention of not revealing themselves yet, but until the flag of the stars and stripes flies over the former Palacio de Cortés. «We will not be Juan Guaidó, who waited and waited for the landing of the marines,» they say to themselves.
But, two, the biggest problem they have would be deciding who would host the invader. And in their eagerness to take the lead, they would reveal themselves. Alito? Anaya? Salinas Pliego? A triumvirate? The latter has the charm of the classic.
In general, the 4T currently owes much to the far right. Its media belches give it internal cohesion, patriotic discourse, and ammunition for the morning press conferences and the like-minded scribblers.

And in this, in looking back, the far right agrees with the ruling party (the National Regeneration Movement Party, the Green Ecologist Party, and the Labor Party—all three with a paradox in their names).
Time and again, in the cadre training of these parties, that is, in the «morning press conference,» they repeat that the pre-Hispanic past was splendorous (in reality, they’re referring to their adoration of the Aztec empire—which was, an empire). That’s why they rewrite history to suit their own tastes.
While the far right would yearn to see the US army march on Reforma, some in the ruling party would dream of the Russian army; others the Chinese; and, well, the PT would yearn for the arrival of the army of… North Korea!
On the far right and in the ruling party, the dilemma would be who would be at the top of the pyramid. A change at the top of the pyramid or a change of pyramid, then.
In this hypothetical situation, do you imagine the heroes of the 4T wielding a 5.56mm FX-05 Xiuhcóatl (Fire Serpent)? Do you imagine them facing the invader’s bullets with their heroic chests? Or do you imagine them running for cover? Uh oh, in this hypothetical scenario, there’s nowhere to go. Unless they change sides…
Of course, you’re right: how good it is that this isn’t going to happen! There’s nothing on the horizon that suggests anything like that. It’s just the Captain’s desire to annoy and ruin the meal.

If you look at the political class, this country called Mexico is a country of many lies. Many bosses—and female bosses, it seems. There are too many generals, not enough troops. Each man or woman has their own battle to climb the pyramid. Their calls for national unity are useless because they can’t even unite their party organization.
Also: corruption, inefficiency, and incompetence (for example, in the face of floods and droughts), rehashed demagoguery, window-dressing indigenism, paid «independent» voices: freelancers and hitmen on morning press conferences, specialized columns, the institutionalization of cheating (because a acordion [cheat sheet] is an old school cheat).
Meanwhile, as a sign of change, the country is going from being a clandestine cemetery to a zone of disappearances. And it is celebrated as progress: «violent deaths have decreased,» although disappearances are now increasing. The Non-Place as a homeland with a biometric CURP.

But not everything is about the disfigurement of the national and international political class up there.
Down below…
There are those who seek and, even if it takes time, do not give up, do not sell out, and do not give in.
There are those who do not look up there, but instead look in the mirror.
There are those who, seeing themselves in others, find themselves.
Because «all over the planet, rebellions are born and grow that refuse to accept the limits of schemes, rules, laws, and precepts. Because there are not only two genders, nor seven colors, nor four cardinal points, nor one world» (Comandanta Ramona Seedbed, August 9, 2018).
