Calendar for the central and southern zones of the country in the second phase of the Other Campaign Zapatista Army for National Liberation

Calendar for the central and southern zones of the country in the second phase of the Other Campaign

Zapatista Army for National Liberation
Mexico
Sixth Commission

September 16, 2007.

To the adherents of the Sixth Declaration and the Other Campaign
To the Organizational Work Entities of the Other Campaign of States, Regions, Subregions, and localities:

Compañeras and compañeros:

Receive our zapatista greetings as compañeras and compañeros in struggle. Here we send you the calendar with the dates of the visits to be made by the 8 delegations of the EZLN’s Sixth Commission in this second phase of the Other Campaign in the central and southern zones of our country.

We ask that you check your state or region in order to know which days we will visit your lands, where we will arrive from and where we go after finishing our work with you.

We have created this proposal taking into account what we know of the Other in your respective places, and we have made a generous calendar (with lots of time) so that the days are not saturated with meetings and events.

For this reason we respectfully request that, in as far as it is possible, that you do not schedule more than two activities per day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon), and that, in the places where time allows, you permit the delegation to rest a day between activities.

Remember that the objective of this phase is to outline what will be the National Program of Struggle, arising from below and to the left, and constructed by all of us. It is not about public events, rallies, or marches, but rather a process of collective reflection.

The delegations are formed by 4-6 delegates each (with comandantas and comandantes), some include minors between 3 and 5 years of age. Each delegation will have a support team in charge of recording and keeping minutes of the meetings. These materials will help the Sixth Commission of the EZLN in drafting an initial outline of a National Program of Struggle, which will be subject to the consideration of all of the Other Campaign at a national level in the third phase of this effort we are undertaking together.

In some cases, we have detailed the days in which we will visit certain places; in others we have left the dates open until we receive your proposals.

In all cases we ask for your support for food, lodging, and transportation for the delegation, and that the meetings scheduled be exclusively with adherents and sympathizers of the Sixth and the Other. It is our voice that must now construct the common points for which we struggle, not that of other people who seek to take our struggle onto other terrains.

We will send a letter to each state or region where we detail the number and names of the delegates and the support team members, so that you can plan lodging and food. A first approximation (which may change) is included in the calendarization of each state or region below.

In Mexico State and the Federal District, whenever possible, lodging will be at the EZLN Sixth Commission’s locale in Mexico City (on Zapotecos Street, Colonia Obrera). In some cases in the Federal District and the State of Mexico, we will meet by sector (sexworkers, other loves, women, children, workers, barrio dwellers, political and social organizations, etc.). We will elaborate on this once we receive your proposals.

Compañeras and compañeros:

In the time we have had together, those compañer@s who have suffered the repression of the bad governments are not few. The zapatista communities and sympathizers of the EZLN have also received repressive blows, threats, and aggressions. We think that this should not detain us, and that we should continue with what we have proposed to do.

But we also cannot act as if nothing is happening.

Perhaps the current situation will force us to take new measures in order to defend our communities, which would mean the partial or total cancellation of this trip (that is, a smaller delegation would be sent out or no one would be sent out). If this is the case, we ask you to carry out this phase without our presence, and that you meet, discuss, and concretize your demands in order to incorporate them into a National Plan of Struggle.

In addition, we think that, wherever possible, we must publicly denounce the repression by the federal, state, and local governments, as well as not abandoning the struggle for the freedom of our compañer@s political prisoners all over the country. There are emblematic dates for this: October 2, October 12, November 20. We must continue demanding freedom and justice for Atenco and for Oaxaca, in addition to the pain that each of us carries from the blows we have received.

Here it is then, compañeras and compañeros:
