To the Mexican and International Sixth
To the free media
To the Mexican people
The indigenous peoples, nations, tribes and barrios of the National Indigenous Congress express our support and solidarity with the compañeros, women and men, from the peoples of the Isthmus region of Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, as well as with our brothers and sisters from the coast of Chiapas, in light of the earthquake that occurred the night of September 7 which left destruction and injured and dead compañeros from our communities.
We know that, as is usually the case, the bad governments are only going to mock our suffering, taking pictures of themselves in front of the rubble and making money off the pain of the peoples struck by tragedy: for this reason we call the men and women of good conscience, the collectives of the Mexican and International Sixth and the Mexican people as a whole to be in solidarity and to bring blankets, medicine, and non-perishable foods in support for the villages of those regions to the locale of the Indigenous Governing Council (CIG) of the National Indigenous Congress, located at #32 Dr. Carmona y Valle Street, Doctores district in Mexico City, a block and a half from the Cuauhtémoc metro station. We also call for the opening of collection centers across the national geography in order to channel support through the CIG so that it arrives directly to the affected villages. The official email address for this purpose is: comunicacion@congresonacionalindigena.org.
Our respectful accompaniment to all of them.
We denounce the continuation of the capitalist war to dispossess our peoples, particularly the autonomous Tepehuana and Wixárika community of San Lorenzo Azqueltán in the municipality of Villa Guerrero, state of Jalisco, which is facing displacement from its lands by supposed small property owners and aggressions targeting the peoples’ agrarian authorities. In recent days, displacements from the communal lands have intensified, as has harassment of the agrarian authorities by Municipal President Aldo Gamboa Gutiérrez, who has instigated violence, dispossession, harassment, and threats against community members. He has given cattle to people foreign to the community in order that they take possession of the communal lands and make death threats against the community authorities, such as the threats received on Monday, August 21 of this year, just as they were leaving the municipal presidency where they had been meeting with the president in order to try to stop the aggressions. This was followed by the denial of municipal services to the children of community members, such as transportation from the community to the municipal seat where they study, and police harassment against the agrarian authorities.
For these reasons, we hold the municipal president of Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, Aldo Gamboa Gutiérrez, responsible for the safety and security of the authorities and community members of San Lorenzo Azqueltán, and we demand an end to the dispossession of their lands.
We repudiate the acts of violence that occurred on September 3 of the present year in the Ikoot community of San Mateo del Mar, Oaxaca, where gunmen under the orders of the local cacique Jorge Leoncio Arroyo Rodríguez sprayed bullets into the crowd as the community finished choosing its municipal authorities through traditional ways and customs, an attack that left several compañeros injured.
Sincerely,
September 9, 2017
