Joint CNI-CIG and EZLN Declaration on the Recent Aggressions by Capitalists, their Governments, and their Cartels against the Originary Peoples of Mexico.

Joint CNI-CIG and EZLN Declaration on the Recent Aggressions by Capitalists, their Governments, and their Cartels against the Originary Peoples of Mexico.

To the peoples of the world:
To the Networks of Resistance and Rebellion
To the National and International Sixth
To the press:
We the peoples, nations, tribes, and barrios of the National Indigenous Congress – Indigenous Governing Council and the Zapatista Army for National Liberation condemn the following events:

The National Guard’s repression of the Nahau originary communities of Juan C. Bonilla.

We denounce the attack on the Nahua originary communities of San Mateo Cuanalá, San Lucas Nextetelco, San Gabriel Ometoxtla, Santa María Zacatepec, and the José Ángeles neighborhood of the Juan C. Bonilla municipality. On October 30 the federal police, the Puebla state police, and the National Guard beat and shot rubber bullets at community members, including children, women, and elderly people.

This repressive attack was unleashed on our compañeros in an effort to push forward the poisoning of the Metlapanapa River as part of the so-called Sewage System Construction Project for the Huejotzingo, Puebla, Industrial Zone, known as “Textile City.” This in turn is part of the urban-industrial infrastructure megaproject known as the Integrated Morelos Project, which has already cost our compañero Samir Flores his life.

National Guard attack on the Nahua originary communities of the Juan C. Bonilla municipality

We condemn the cowardly attack this past November 3 on the Wixárika and Tepehuana community of San Lorenzo de Azqueltán, municipality of Villa Guerrero, Jalisco, by the landowners Fabio Ernesto Flores Sánchez (alias La Polla), Javier Guadalupe Flores Sánchez, and Mario Flores. Accompanied by three truckloads of armed individuals and acting with total impunity, they ambushed and beat community members and authorities, seriously injuring our compañeros Ricardo de la Cruz González, Noé Aguilar Rojas, and Rafael Reyes Márquez, who are currently receiving medical attention.

These homicidal efforts, which have been carried out with total impunity, are intended to stop these communities’ historic and dignified struggle to defend their land. That land is coveted by those who, because they have money, believe themselves owners of the region and who have long relied on the full complicity of the government, which is itself eager to offer up communal land up for multi-million dollar deals and to erase the Tepecano peoples from history.

We demand the safe return of our compañeros Carmelo Marcelino Chino and Jaime Raquel Cecilio of the Frente Nacional por la Liberación de los Pueblos (National Front for Peoples’ Liberation) in the state of Guerrero who were disappeared on October 22 on their way from Acapulco to Huamuchapa. This crime is only the most recent act in the ongoing criminalization, persecution, murder, and disappearance of all those in the state of Guerrero and across Mexico who struggle to protect indigenous territories against capitalist devastation.

We also denounce the Oaxacan police’s hours-long disappearance and arrest of our compañero Fredy García of the Comité de Defensa de Derechos Indígenas (Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights, CODEDI) after he was called to a meeting with government officials. Police brought absurd charges against García in an attempt to criminalize his and CODECI’s dignified struggle against capitalist repression and dispossession. We demand immediate and unconditional freedom for our compañero Fredy García!

The capitalists, their cartels, and their governments use armed groups—whether it’s the bad government’s military or police, shock troops, or organized crime—to impose death and dispossession on the originary peoples. For our peoples this means violence, terror, and rage; for them, it means impunity and the guarantee that their crimes against entire peoples will be translated into profits.

Attentively,

November of 2019
