COMMUNIQUÉ FROM THE INDIGENOUS REVOLUTIONARY CLANDESTINE COMMITTEE – GENERAL COMMAND OF THE ZAPATISTA ARMY FOR NATIONAL LIBERATION.
MEXICO.
APRIL 2011.
“An inhabitant of Los Pinos contemplates an atrocious crime,
He pays it no heed for a year,
And instead moves the furniture around, those pieces which
Play at the roles of ministers and public officials
And takes refuge in a guilty silence,
The outcast, in his eagerness to maintain
The seat he holds.
What shall we give him, Daré?
And our child doctor of souls prescribes:
A corset of dignity for straightening the back,
Eyedrops of truth,
Honesty pills (but he may not put them in his pockets),
Injections of dignity that money cannot buy
And total rest from his corrupt habits.
Isolate him, for his illness is contagious”.
Juan Carlos Mijangos Noh.
(Fragment of “49 Balloons,”
In memory of the 49 children dead at the ABC Daycare in Hermosillo, Sonora).
TO THE PEOPLE OF MEXICO:
TO THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD:
TO THE ADHERENTS TO THE SIXTH DECLARATION OF THE LACANDÓN JUNGLE AND THE OTHER CAMPAIGN IN MEXICO:
TO THE ADHERENTS TO THE ZEZTA INTERNATIONAL:
SISTERS AND BROTHERS:
COMPAÑERAS AND COMPAÑEROS:
The psychotic military campaign of Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, who has converted the struggle against crime into a totalitarian argument to purposefully generalize fear throughout the country, is now confronted with the dignified and organized voices of the families of the victims of this war.
These voices, coming from different corners of our country, call on us to mobilize and protest the organized and unorganized madness that is taking innocent lives, lives that are taken again when they are classified, in crude government discourse, as hired guns or collateral damage.
In response to this call that is born with the pain of compañero poet Javier Sicilia, among others, the EZLN states:
First: EZLN support bases will march in silence in the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, the 7th of May, 2011, to salute and support this dignified voice demanding justice. The Zapatista contingent will leave from the street in front of CIDECI in the afternoon and march to the Plaza of Peace in front of the Cathedral. Upon arriving at the plaza a message from the EZLN will be read. Afterwards the Zapatistas will return to their communities.
Second: In response to the convocation for a National March for Justice and Against Impunity, we call upon our compañer@s in the Other Campaign in Mexico and around the world—the individuals, groups, collectives, organizations, movements, and originary peoples who are adherents of the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón Jungle—to, in accordance with their abilities and possibilities, join the just demand of this national march, whether that be accompanying the principal march in Mexico City on the 8th of May, 2011, or carrying out in their own locations, between the 5th and 8th of May, 2011, silent marches with banners, signs, rallies, and cultural programs, with the following slogans:
END CALDERÓN’S WAR!
NO MORE BLOOD!
WE’RE FED UP WITH…!
(where everyone finishes the phrase with their own demands).
Third: We make a special call to our compañer@s of the Other Campaign in Chiapas to demonstrate with us, in silence, on May 7, 2011, meeting in CIDECI in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas at midday, in order to walk from there to the Plaza of Peace.
Fourth: We call on our compañeros in the Zezta International, from their respective geographies and calendars, to support this demand to halt the bloodbath being carried out on Mexican land and to bring justice to the victims.
Fifth: We also call upon the originary peoples of Mexico, gathered within the National Indigenous Congress, to support this struggle to end the nightmare of blood that soaks our soil.
Sixth: In response to the exhortation to name the victims of this war, we name those murdered by a criminal group in Villas de Salvárcar, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, at the end of January 2010, and who still wait for justice:
Marcos Piña Dávila José Luis Piña Dávila Rodrigo Cadena Dávila Juan Carlos Medrano Horacio Alberto Soto Camargo José Luis Aguilar Camargo Yomira Aurora Delgado Brenda Ivonne Escamilla |
José Adrian Encino Hernández Edgar Martínez Díaz Jesús Enríquez Jesús Armando Segovia Ortiz Carlos Lucio Moreno Eduardo Becerra. Jaime Rosales |
They are not alone!
DEMOCRACY!
FREEDOM!
JUSTICE!
