Caravan for Peace, Life and Justice in the Mountain Region of Guerrero Postponed
Press release
July 12, 2019:
To the Mexican people,
To the peoples of the world,
To the Networks of Resistance and Rebellion,
To the CIG Support Networks,
To the national and international Sixth,
To the press:
We the National Indigenous Congress–Indigenous Governing Council denounce the increasing harassment and attacks by the criminal organizations Los Rojos and Los Ardillos, both protected by the bad governments, against the communities that make up the Emiliano Zapata Indigenous and Popular Council of Guerrero [CIPOG-EZ]. These criminal groups have made death threats against our compañeros and compañeras who have been organizing to receive the caravan that we as the National Indigenous Congress–Indigenous Governing Council, together with the Zapatista Army for National Liberation, convoked as part of the Campaign for Life, Peace and Justice in the Mountain Region of Guerrero.
We denounce the escalating and armed aggression against communities that, in full exercise of their autonomy, are organizing to create justice and peace in the indigenous communities of the lower mountainous region of Guerrero and across the whole country.
The terror and mourning that is sown throughout indigenous territories by narco-paramilitary groups is made possible by the complicity, silence and protection offered by the bad government, at all levels and among all political parties. It is in these indigenous territories where the communities continue to collectively decide to refuse the death that capitalism offers in exchange for life, and to reject that power that governs with weapons to benefit capitalism and its corruption.
In light of these facts, and given that there is no guarantee of safety for those who organize themselves independently in that region’s communities and who continue to exercise dignity and determination in the struggle to break the siege of death that surrounds them (on the contrary, the war against them only intensifies), the Emiliano Zapata Indigenous and Popular Governing Council of Guerrero and the Coordinating Commission of the National Indigenous Congress–Indigenous Governing Council have decided to postpone the Caravan for Life, Peace and Justice in the Mountain Region of Guerrero. We call for a redoubling of efforts to collect resources for the region, including the donation of non-perishable food and medicine at 32 Dr. Carmona y Valle Street, Doctores, Mexico City, and via donations to the bank account of Alicia Castellanos Guerrero, at the BBVA Bancomer Bank, Account Number 0471079107, clabe bancaria [Standardized Bank Code] 012540004710791072, SWIFT code BCMRMXMM, ABA [Routing number]: 021000128. Please send a copy of the deposit slip with your name, telephone number and address to the following email: aliciac.2145@gmail.com, along with a note specifying that the donation is for the communities of the Emiliano Zapata Indigenous and Popular Governing Council of Guerrero (CIPOG-EZ).
We also call for close attention to and solidarity with the word of the indigenous communities who struggle to stop this war against the originary peoples and our resistance and our rebellion.
Sincerely,
July 2019
